A small wordpress tip

Hi, folks - this is a quick tip which might save you some grief - it's not likely to bring you great wealth, just save you a bit of stress.

Having installed custom themes into my wordpress blogs, I hate it when a wordpress upgrade "upsets" the theme and other customisations.

My little tip is to revert to the default wordpress theme before clicking an upgrade button; install the upgrade and then switch on the customised theme again.

I tried doing this with bans/wordpress sites after I had stuffed up custom menus. It's saved me endless hours of reconfiguring sites.

I hope that helps some.

Margaret

Motivation - write down your goals

Hi, folks - I just read a discussion somewhere about a lady who has just achieved a $500 day.

She created a graphic of everything she wanted - ie pics of stunning travel locations, whatever - and added a figure of $500 into the middle of it - and has used it as her desktop image. Every time she opens her pc and looks at it, there's this motivating little graphic of the things she wants out of life.

That sure concentrates the mind - and it makes working towards a goal that much easier.

Mar

That was about 2 years ago, and I put a link on the Geocities site to the new site. Last month I got 265 visits therough the Geocities site.
There are actually a lot of Geocities sites with a wealth of info on them.

Re: yahoo directory submit

I thought a paid directory service would be a better option than the rest. But seeing your thread I am forced to re-think if a paid directory submission is really worth rather than some more frequent free submissions !

Currently I am submitting my site to free directories only. And yes, why forget DMOZ, the open source Directory. It is also a good option to submit to 5 free directories daily rather than to submit to one Paid Directory and wait so long.

Re: What is AdSense?

Doesnt cost anything to have adsense on your site and yeah you can earn $'s from people clicking on it.

As for having your site show up in the adsense blocks on other peoples sites then yeah this will cost YOU when people click on it. Think its the same as pay per click, where as you pay for certain keywords, so if you sell golf clubs and your keyword is golf clubs, then your advert will show up on sites with similar content and if somebody clicks it to goto your site then you pay google.

Correct me if Im wrong people as I'm no expert on adsense!

Even if you only subscribe to this for a month or two, you're going to look at the world in a whole new way and will start looking for hidden business ideas of your own.

In days when times are tough, it's worth looking around to see what opportunities are around you - and having a quick crib to spot the business ideas is going to put you ahead of the crowd.

M

Is the time right for real estate development?

Hi -

Last year, my sister and I bought a fixer-upper home in the UK. She's worked her socks off to bring it back up to a good standard and we have some tenants in place now. We probably bought just before the credit crunch really took hold and prices fell, so we may have bought at the top of the market. Our figures still stack up ok - so we're happy with what we did.

It seems to me that, even though there are a lot of people who have fallen foul of the banks and their over-generous lending policies (I really do blame the banks), there are opportunities out there for those people with cash and a bit of energy to buy cheap property and do them up.

How to Find Cheap Property Deals - shows some of the ways where you can find properties to purchase.

I hate the idea of the waste of good properties allowed to stand empty, deteriorating all the time.

5 Ways To Improve Your Adsense Earnings

If webmasters want to monetize their websites, the great way to do it is through Adsense. There are lots of webmasters struggling hard to earn some good money a day through their sites. But then some of the “geniuses” of them are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from Adsense ads on their websites. What makes these webmasters different from the other kind is that they are different and they think out of the box.

The ones who have been there and done it have quite some useful tips to help those who would want to venture into this field. Some of these tips have boosted quite a lot of earnings in the past and is continuously doing so.

Here are some 5 proven ways on how best to improve your Adsense earnings.

1. Concentrating on one format of Adsense ad. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format have the tendency to result in higher CTR, or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.

3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off than the others, put your ads there and try to maintaining and managing them. If there is already lots of Adsense put into that certain site, put yours on top of all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, save it as “adsense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.

Note also that there are many other Adsense sharing the same topic as you. It is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.

Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.

If others have done it, there is nothing wrong trying it out for yourself.

Need help with major virus! Very URGENT!

After all of the viruses I've gotten in the past, you'd think I'd be more careful by now. I once again have a virus (or something) but this one is the most powerful one yet.

Here are the problems:

- Whenever I click on a link in a search engine like Google or Yahoo! the link always gets redirected to a random site.

- I can't go to some sites. I tried to go to some of the computer help forums and blogging forums I normally go to but it won't even let me go to them. I can't even go to Ask.com!

- Some sites have little to no html and the pages look of low quality. Not only that but the links there don't even work. YouTube won't let me see any of my comments or messages and the font is oddly sized.

- Of course the whole computer slowing down and freezing cliche is around this time.

I'm sure it's a virus (or something) because:

- I tried surfing the net in both Firefox (my default) and Internet Explorer.

- Restarting the computer does nothing to help.
